Foram propostos alguns patches pela RedHat, ClusterFS, IBM e Bull que aumentam o tamanho máximo de um filesystem em ext3 de 8 TB para 1024 PB. Estes patches serão implementados no novo ext4 que deverá estar estável daqui a uns meses.
